How to Consign

When you consign with Bon Achat, your clothes are priced to ensure that you get the highest possible value for your articles. Your reimbursement checks are mailed to you automatically (you never have to ask!) and Bon Achat will document everything for you. You won’t find better marketing of your valuable garments, service, and your account information at any other consignment store.
It takes proper merchandising, hard work and careful selection of garments to make Bon Achat and you, the consignor, successful. The purpose of this guide is to save you time and money by helping you choose and prepare your clothing for consignment.
Policies and Procedures
First, check the Best Sellers & Items Not Accepted list for the kind of items that we handle versus those we do not accept at all. If any of the things you have are listed in the Items Not Accepted Category, give us a call and we’ll be happy to refer you to a store that can help you with those items.
We allow a maximum of 25 items for consignment for each appointment. You may make as many appointments as you wish.
Also, we take only in season items, so focus your selection on items for the current season.
Take a Good Look……
Then, take a good long look at each item you’re considering for consignment and ask yourself, “Why am I interested in consigning this item?”
If the answer is, “It’s a beautiful garment and I love it, BUT…”
- It will never fit me again
- It’s just not my color
- My lifestyle has changed and I’ll never wear it again
- I’ve had it for a while and the tags are still on it
- It was an impulse buy and just isn’t me
- It is timeless and gently worn
You’re on the right track! Keep going! Bring those items in!
If the answer is:
- It’s more than 3 years old
- It’s worn out
- It needs repair
- It looks dated or out of style
- It’s not very good quality
- I just want all this old stuff out of my closet
STOP!! Our shoppers would feel the same way you do about these things so it’s unlikely Bon Achat will accept them. You might consider making a charitable donation of these garments.
Preparing your Garments………….
Clean, well pressed and fragrance free sells the best! The cleanliness and appearance of your garments is crucial. All garments must be freshly dry cleaned or laundered, fragrance free, with no damage, pressed and on hangers to be accepted!!
We recognize that good dry cleaning is costly. To avoid unnecessary expense, we urge you to check each garment in bright daylight for:
- Soil/stains especially around collars, cuffs, underarms and in crotch areas
- Missing/loose buttons and closures
- Torn/stained linings
- Moth holes
- Faded or uneven colors
If you see anything that does not appear to be correctable STOP! Again, making a charitable donation of those items might be appropriate.
Do the Math………..
- It is our goal to achieve a 10 - 15% return on your original investment in your garments for you. It’s a good idea to take a minute and think through just how much will actually be in your pocket at the end of the consignment process.
- Keep in mind the cost of dry cleaning or laundering each garment before consignment.
- We will price your items at approximately 55% to 75% lower than full retail price.
- If you deduct the cost of preparing your garments for your proceeds, what will be the net amount you have realized?
Make an Appointment…….
Consignments are accepted Monday through Thursday by appointment only. Please call during normal store hours. (10:00 am to 7:00 pm)
Write up and Pricing….
At the appointment, we will complete an intake form for you and the agreement for the terms of the consignment. Then just relax and wait for the checks to arrive.
Consigning Clothing…….
The inventory at Bon Achat is composed of high quality well-known name-brand clothing that would be found in stores like Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Dillards, and high end boutiques, etc. within the last 1-3 years.
Best Sellers…..
Examples of the brands we feature for women are: Coach, Hermes, Ralph Lauren, Shelli Segal, Ferragamo, Burberry, Max Studio, Michael Kors, Austin Reed, True Religion, Chicos, Bebe, Juicy Couture, Anthropologie, Ann Taylor, Cache, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, St. John, Marc Jacobs, Gucci, Escada, Toru Burch, and many others.
The garment types we accept are……
Blazers, Blouses and Tops, After five/formal wear, Sweaters, Pants, Designer jeans, Vests, Skirts, Shoes, Suits, Dresses, Slacks, Coats, Costume jewelry, Hats, Handbags, and high end boutique items.
Examples of brands for Men are: Diesel, Fila, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Bahama, Perry Ellis, Kenneth Cole, Hart-Schaffner-Marx, Rock Republic, William Rast, Burberry, Christian Dior, Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss etc.
The garment types we accept are……
Suits, Sport Jackets, Blazers, Shirts, Sport Shirts, Trousers, Sweaters, Designer Jeans, Coats
The types of Home Décor we accept include……
Lamps, Pillows, China, Crystal, Glass, Small Pictures, Picture Frames, Hard Cover Books, Clocks, Collectables, Statues, Pottery, Vases, and decorative table top items.

Policies…..
Bon Achat is dedicated to the ideal of excellence in both value and service. We strive to present and market your quality, name-brand clothing to achieve the maximum return possible for you. We offer you the highest quality, most comprehensive and professional service available in any consignment shop in the Scottsdale area.
Our consignment policies are:
- Consignments are accepted Monday through Thursday by appointment only.
- All garments must be freshly cleaned or laundered and pressed, in season, have no stains, no needed repairs and no other signs of wear.
- Prices are established by Bon Achat.
- Your portion of the sales proceeds will be:
- …either 45% of the final selling price in cash.
- …or 55% of the final selling price in store credit.
- Checks will automatically be issued on the 15th of every month for any sales occurring in the prior month. (Example: Any sale made between the 1st and 30th of June will be paid on the 15th of July.)
- We will never automatically donate your items if you check “Pick up” in the disposition area of your Bon Achat Consignment Agreement. If you have checked “Pick up” in the consignment agreement and any of your garments remain unsold after 90 days, you may reclaim them by scheduling an appointment up to one week prior to the expiration date of the agreement. If we do not hear from you or if you fail to pick up your items within 5 days after the expiration of your agreement, we will have no alternative but to donate them to a charity of our choice.
